Ahhh......The second day of a brand new year. How has it been so far? I plan on making 2011 the best year yet as far as Penny Brown goes. Hopefully by fall (or maybe sooner) we can get book #2 in the Penny Brown Series out. Some of you have asked me what it is about. While I hesitate to give it away completely, here is a hint for parents. If you ever have gone through a devastating illness with your family or someone you know, this book is for you. The children will love it.
As I mentioned in a previous post, Michelle and i have several signings for "I Sit in A Wheelchair....But I Will Be Okay" lined up for March, April, and May. If anyone you know would like us to come and read to your school/church groups or anything, please let me know. My e-mail is taz_lover74330@yahoo.com Michelle and I are free anytime in January or February.
I just looked on the rankings for "I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will be Okay". We are 167,106. That is a low number, and the lower the better. (The low numbers means people are buying, and in turn that is great for us as well as Strategic). So, if anyone has not purchased a copy, now would be a great time to do so.
Here are a few of my personal writing goals for 2011:
1. I say this every year, but never do it. This year, I am going to stick to some sort of daily writing routine, and stick to it. With life the way it is, I can't always work from 9-5, but I plan to devote at least three hours a day to writing Penny Brown stories as well as some new short stories.
2. I am going to devote at least six hours a week to finding publishers for my work.
3. I am going to write fifteen letters a week for my new book, "Letters Home"
It seems I have been very lax about my writing habits, so I thought now would be the time to practice them. It takes 7 days to form a routine and 21 days to break old habits, so we will see how I do.

Holiday Happenings
Hi everybody!
I can't believe Christmas is just three days away! It seems like just yesterday, "I Sit in a Wheelchair....But I Will Be Okay" was released. WOW! How time flies. I need to update you all about holiday happenings, and I will also give you a preview of what Michelle and I have to look forward to in 2011.
On Saturday, December 4th, I had fun signing books at the Franklin County Public Library in Ozark. Michelle did not get to join me on this one, and I missed her. However, my buddies from the Franklin Coiunty Book Club stepped into help me. Thank you Donna and Zarfia. It was so fun, and nice to see you. Thanks also goes out to the Franklin County Public Library for letting me set up.
On Thursday, December 8th, i did a radio interview for the Children's Author's radio show. This interview was unlike any other I had ever done. Mr. Don McCauley is a marketing and publicity consultant who moderates the Children's Author's Radio Show. I went and spent a week with Michelle and her family last week. (December 10-17th) I had a blast, and can't wait to come and visit Sperry again.
As we are about a week away from the new year, I look back and reflect on "i Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay." The sales have been pretty good. Michelle and i want to thank everyone who has purchased a book. I am sure it will be a treasure for many years to come. I have learned a lot about the life of being an author duruing the past few months. i have probably made some mistakes, but that is okay..........it's how you learn. Michelle and I have had a lot of fun, and a good year.
We are looking forward to several things in 2011
1. March 11th (Friday) 2-4 P.M. Michelle and I will be feaured in the Authors in the Afternoon series at the Fort Smith Public Library. We will be signing and selling books fir ten do;;ars. Come on out and see us.
2. April 14th 6-8 P.M. (Thursday) The Little Light House Tulsa, OK Michelle and I have been asked to sell books at an educational fair. We look forward to seeing you all. The Little Lighthouse is where I used to go to preschool.
3. May Date and time to be announced The Special Olympics Stillwater, Oklahoma Michelle and I went last year, and we had a BLAST selling books. It is so neat to watch these kids. We will have a booth with books again this year. Come see us.
Some tentative stops (These have not been officially set up yet)
1. Sperry Public Schools Sperry, OK Sometime after the first of the year
2. Nevada, MO Michelle and I will be speaking to an entire school district, plus selling some books in a store
So, as you can see, we will be busy in 2011 I can't wait. Michelle and I aslo hope to have the second book published in the coming year. Merry Christmas!!!!!

Being Thankful
It is hard to believe that "I Sit In A Wheelchair....But I Will Be Okay" has been on the shelves for almost nine months. If you have purchased this book, thank-you all ever so much. It is our wish that you have had fun reading the story with/or to your children. I hope that you have taken something positive from the book as well.
If you have not purchased the book yet, dont worry. There is still time. After all the book will always be available on the World Wide Web. I am also looking forward to my book signing at The Franklin County Library in Ozark in two weeks.
Since Thanksgiving is this week....I am going to take a moment to stop and reflet on what Michelle and I are thankful for.
1. Jesus-This Book has been quite a journey for us both. We prayed for good results with Penny Brown, and I feel as if we have been blessed beyond belief. God is awesome!
2. We are thankful for our families. Without tons of love and support from our families, this project would not have been possible. I would especially like to thank my Grandmother for always supporting me, no matter what I do or where I go. She is the one who taught me to try my hardest, and never give up. I love you all!
3. I am expecially thankful for Michelle's family. Her parents Ronnie and Deanna have been an awesome source of help and support through this process. Without them, this book would not have happened. Michelle's extended family is awesome too! I love you all!
4. I am thankful for my editor Terri Kruse. In addition to catching the mistakes, I don't see, she has been a constant source of support from day one, and she has helped me find not only an illustrator, but my best friend as well. I am also thankful for Beverley Dieker, my other former English teacher, who gave me an idea for the Penny Brown series.
5. Michelle and I are thankful for our own health. We realize that many peoplr have to be in wheelchairs every day. I do have a disabilitty, but I am not in a wheelchair, and we both feel our limitations will not stop us from doing what we want to do. We also realize people face more difficult challenges than us.
6. We are thankful for our Penny Brown fans. Thanks for buying the book. We are working hard to promote it. Without your support, the book would not be on the shelves.
7. Lastly, thank-you to all who have or will let us hold book signings. Book signings are a fun way to get to know the people. I appreciate the businesses who have let us come in and set up space to sell "I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay"
8. I am thankful for my friends who have inspiried the characters in "I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay" I would like to thank my friends in general for encouraging me to go on, no matter what. I Love you all!

Book Rankings and What They Mean for Penny
Oh! this has been a wonderful day in Penny Brown world! I am so excited! While searching Amazon for a few Christmas related ideas, I decided to check and see how I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay was doing. Imagine my surprise upon discovering that "I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay" was ranked #59 in the top 100 children's books for special needs kids.
WOW!!!! what a wonderful piece of news. My book coach Vicki at Stragetic told me the lower the ranking, the better the book would sell. I would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone who has helped make this book successful. Michelle and I appreciate you so much! It seems that at times, I talk about Penny Brown too much, and I wonder if people get sick of heraring it. However, this is my dream. Thank-you all for helping me make it happen.

New Happenings in Penny Brown World

It's been a couple of weeks since I have written, but Michelle and I are working on getting more signings for "I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay." However, Michelle and I do have busy lives outside of writing. I take care of my Grandma, plus I am a part of a very special book club. Michelle is busy with Art classes at TCC (Tulsa Community College) and she is working really hard preparing for a horse jumping competition in Stillwater, Oklahoma next weekend. Our schedules and the fact that we live two hundred miles away from each other cause us to only book at most two signings a month. If you would like us to come to your school or speak at your organization, please feel free to contact us, and we will work with you.
One upcoming signing that we do have is going to be Saturday, December 4th from 10:00-11:30 A.M. at the Franklin County Public library in Ozark, Arkansas. We feel that this will be a great opportunity to kick off the Christmas season. Are you looking for a special Christmas gift. Please consider the gift of reading. Copies of "I Sit in a Wheelchair...But I Will Be Okay" will be sold for ten dollars. Please bring the kids because we will have goodies for everyone who buys a copy of the book. And, as always, we will be happy to sign them.

The Penny Brown Adventures blog now on Facebook!
Here I am again....always finding ways to improve on the first of many books in the Penny Brown series. I started this blog sometime ago, but have had trouble with it....so I have the majority of blog posts under my notes tab on Facebook. Never fear....I think I have FINALLY figured this blog out. Therefore it will be updated once a week with Penny Brown information.
I am also going to start another blog on here about the writing life in general. I love writing....it's my job. i think the writing blog and the Penny Brown blog will help me stay focused on all aspects of my writing life. Thanks for your support.
